Fostering Imagination & Teamwork
At the BSA, the creative and performing arts are woven directly into the DNA of school life. Engaging with art and music allows children to develop deep imagination, visual self-expression, and critical thinking while actively boosting coordination, confidence, and collaborative soft skills.
Art Skills Curriculum
Alongside regular classroom art lessons aligned with current topic studies, children benefit from a dedicated, weekly Art Skills lesson taught by an expert specialist teacher. Students explore a rich array of artistic media, techniques, and historical styles.
Weekly Music & Singing
Music is a constant source of joy on our campus. Children participate in weekly, specialist-led curriculum music lessons and lively group singing sessions, discovering rhythm, notation, and vocal performance.
Year-Group Productions
Every child has their moment to shine. Each year group participates in a full-scale theatrical production performed for our parent and school community, alongside regular classroom assemblies. These events build outstanding public speaking confidence and group teamwork.
Museum & Cultural Connections
We proudly make the most of our location in the cultural heart of Europe. Junior School students participate in regular visits to Amsterdam's world-class museums and local arts events, bringing history and art to life.
Private Music Tuition (YMBSA)
For students wishing to explore their musical talents further, we are proud to host a dedicated network of experienced visiting music specialists through the Young Musicians of The British School of Amsterdam (YMBSA). Our facilities include dedicated, professional music practice rooms on campus.Private, one-to-one music tuition is offered on campus for a wide range of instruments, including violin, cello, harp, guitar, recorder, flute, clarinet, saxophone, brass, voice, piano, and drums.
Through these structured lessons, students learn deep personal discipline, boost cognitive development, and enjoy the lifelong reward of mastering an instrument. Students can join our practice bands, three age-appropriate student choirs, and perform regularly in concerts and assemblies throughout the year.
Graded Music Examinations
To provide outstanding motivation and a sense of pride, we host official, globally recognised music examinations directly on campus:
- ABRSM in-person classical music exams each November.
- Digital performance exams are arranged directly through YMBSA teachers, including ABRSM (Classical), Trinity College of Music (Classical, Pop & Rock), and LCME (Musical Theatre and Popular Vocals).
Please Note: Lesson schedules and payments are managed directly through the YMBSA and operate independently of standard school fees. To register your child or discuss lessons, please contact the YMBSA directly through email.
