New Head of Junior School Appointed

The British School of Amsterdam (The BSA) is delighted to announce an exciting addition to our educational community. It is with great pleasure that we introduce Mrs. Melanie Fidge as the newly appointed Head of Junior School.

Melanie brings with her a wealth of experience and expertise, particularly in fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment for young learners. She has a proven track record of leadership, a deep commitment to academic excellence, and a genuine passion for supporting the holistic development of each child.

“I am delighted to join The British School of Amsterdam as Head of Junior School. Having visited the school recently, I was instantly struck by the warm and friendly welcome offered by pupils, parents and staff alike. I am excited about the potential for continued development within a school community which delivers a truly outstanding British international education. I am honoured to join the team and to be part of the school’s future.”

After graduating from Cambridge University with a first-class degree in Modern Languages, Melanie began her working life in the voluntary sector leading corporate fundraising teams at VSO and Save the Children. She then completed her teacher training (with a Primary/MFL specialism) at Goldsmiths University and spent her formative teaching years in London. Melanie developed her teaching and leadership experience working at international schools in Thailand and the UAE before returning to the UK to work in both state and prep schools. Having worked in schools which range in size and scope, she is poised to bring that breadth of knowledge and experience to The BSA.

Melanie’s strong leadership skills and collaborative approach will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our Junior School community, and her education philosophy aligns with The BSA’s vision and values, making her the chosen candidate for this important position. She will begin her role as the Head of Junior School in August 2023.
