About Us

Welcome to The British School of Amsterdam, where we are dedicated to providing the best in British international education.

Message from the Principal

At The British School of Amsterdam, our students are at the heart of everything we do. We believe every school day is important, fostering academic success, strong character, and meaningful relationships so our students thrive and learn to succeed.

Our rich history has seen us grow from a small primary school to a through-school for ages 3 to 18. We bring our diverse community together at our historic Havenstraat building, where modern facilities blend seamlessly with its national monument status. Our origins as a parent-founded school are still celebrated through our exceptional parents’ organisation, reinforcing that belonging is for everyone – students, staff, and families alike. Belonging is key to wellbeing; we thrive together.

British education is world-class. Our rigorous curriculum leads to GCSE and A Level certifications, delivered by highly qualified and committed staff. Beyond academic excellence, our extensive enrichment programs cultivate well-rounded young people with a growth mindset and a can-do attitude, preparing them for top universities globally. We are proud to be accredited by BSO, AoBSO, COBIS, and HMC, standing among the best schools worldwide.

The British School of Amsterdam prepares young people not just to succeed in an ever-changing world, but to lead it. Driven by our values – nurture, inspire, empower – we continuously evolve, building on our proud heritage. I invite you to visit and experience our extraordinary school firsthand.

Vision

Forward looking, forward thinking: the best that British international education can offer. A thriving school community which nurtures, inspires and empowers everyone to be the very best they can be.

The British School of Amsterdam’s Strategic Plan guides the Development Plan, which has been devised in consultation with all parties: the Supervisory Board, the leadership teams, staff, students, and parents.

It focuses on three Strategic Priorities; Academic Achievement, Student Welfare, and Extra-Curriclar Activities. There are then either Strategic Enablers that are essential for supporting the priorities. These are:

  • Staff
  • Facilities
  • Finance
  • Parents and School Community
  • Admissions and Marketing
  • Human Resources
  • IT
  • Leadership
