b"Issue 16 The British School of AmsterdamWorld Turtle DayDuring the final half term of this year, the Junior School celebrated World Turtle Day.The day raised awareness of the importance of doing all we can to protect these wonderful animals and the challenges posed to their existence. The highlight of the day was a turtle trail created by Mrs White and Miss Haydock. It consisted of an obstacle course which covered the entire sports hall. This was designed to emulate the challenges baby turtles face on their first perilous journey to the sea after hatching. The children had great fun and used lots of energy completing the course whilst developing their understanding of the importance of conservation.Kings Day CelebrationsNo Summer Term at the school would be the same without the annual Kings Day celebration. The children arrived at school in a blaze of dazzling orange excited for what the day had in store. The Dutch teachers began the day with a marvelous assembly in which they explained the reasons for Kings Day and the traditions that take place each year. One of the many traditions is playing games and the children took part in a number of these as part of their Dutch lessons that week. There was much hilarity as the children did their best to succeed at koekhappen and spijkepoepen. As always, the King's Day celebrations were a real opportunity to discover and connect with the culture of the nation we live in. We can't wait to do it all again next year. 13"
